With all the releases of firmware for iPod touch iPhone iPad things are getting confusing.. 3.1 or 3.2 or 4.0 firmwares branded around. Shsh blobs? Have you backed them up. Apple not signing them anymore? iTunes new releases every 5 mins. Driving me crazy. I am still on the original firmware on my iPad 3.2. Didn't upgrade to 3.2.1 as my iPad was running fine and dandy. Still is at the moment. I know that there is a new 4.0 firmware in November for the iPad but not sure about a jailbreak and also not sure what iTunes is best to stay on. Been jail breaking my iPod touch for years on 1st gen but now it seems to be a lot more confusing and harder. It's easy to get them mixed up I think. On this forum I have always found good advice and always managed to perform the jailbreak from the post and guides on here. My concern now is that if my iPad has a problem I won't be able to re jailbreak it if I have to do a restore to solve any imminent or future problem with it. Don't know if it's too late to back up my blobs or not. Heard cydia can do this but not sure, you didn't have to do this before. Is any one else in a quandary or is it just me?

If Cydia tells you that your SHSH files are backed up, you're fine. It should say it in green letters at the top of Cydia's home page when you open it up.

Thankyou for the quick reply nitro. Will go and open up cydia and have a look.

Just checked cydia. The green writing tells me I have iPhone backed up 3.2, 3.2.1,3.2.2. so is this ok for iPad as it doesn't say iPad? If so then does this mean that I could safely upgrade to 3.2.2 if I wished to.

It's the writing at the top that you see here. If your homepage doesn't have that, you can't return to any firmware except the latest.

Wow. Thanks for the image nitrobum. Can't go wrong with that.

Just had a thought. Now that cydia is showing me that my blobs are backed up on the iPad do I now have to somehow back them up on my computer for future re jail breaking?

Nope. It's cause they're not backed up on your iPad. They're on Saurik's server, so you can restore whenever you want and he'll still have them. Which iOS versions does it say you have SHSHs for?

    Run NotePad as administrator
    Click File > Open...
    Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Click where it says Text Documents (*.txt) and choose All Files (*.*)
    Open the file called hosts
Add the following line to the bottom of the hosts file

    127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

    Click File > Save
    Shift + Restore in iTunes
Select the firmware that you want to restore to
Saurik must have your SHSH blobs for the firmware you select

Oh sorry, I forgot a step. I'll insert it into the instructions.
