Just wondering, is there a DFU mode for the iPad? I know there is for the iPhone and iPod Touch but obviously this is slightly different hardware.

Yes. Same steps. DFU is when the screen is off completely whle iTunes reports that you need to restore the iPad...

Any tips on how to get into it? I've been unable to do so.

It's the same process as the iPhones.

    1)Plug it in
2)Hold down both buttons for 15 secs
3)Let go of the power button and continue holding the home for 15

That's the guranted way of getting in (perfect first time every time).

Turn it off, hold home for 3 seconds. Hold power and home for 10 seconds. Let go and it will show a turned on but blank screen, if it has a itunes thing it means you placed it in recovery.
