Anyone know how to get a new AT&T account on an iPad that was used by someone else? When I click View Account it takes me directly to a login page instead of the signup page, and there is now signup link. I'm dreading having to call AT&T...

Did you get a new microSIM card? You may need a new one, as the old SIM is linked to the previous owner's account.

Was it an iPad micro-sim? They are different from the iPhone ones because they are provisioned only for data and not SMS and calls.

They should still work just fine. There is no iPad-specific SIM...

That aside, did you contact the old user and ask him to cancel his account? If he hasn't done so, it will do so within a month or two.

Oh wait, that one is a sim that only works in the iPad 3G, not that it's the only sim that would work with the iPad 3G. I think you'd know the difference...

As for that iPad sim, I call bs on AT&T. Maybe it's just a regular micro-SIM. You can only insert it into either an iPad or iPhone 4 to check anyways. And why wouldn't it work at least for data on iPhone 4?

It's not BS, if you read carefully, they state that it is provisioned differently in their system, meaning you can't make phone calls or send texts using SIMs with ICCIDs in that range.

Well, I know those restrictions may apply, but what would stop it from providing data access for the iPhone 4, or any other device that accepts micro-SIM?

Anyway, I think you can just cut a regular SIM up if that is too expensive, or perhaps contact the original owner of the iPad and ask him to cancel his old account?
