im jailbreaking and i just entered the IP of my iPod for the first time

but im using the people's next door wireless
and my own source of internet for my computer
i entered what was listed under the WiFi on the iPoT

PuTTY came up and it had an error
    and now it is inactive
so, what do i do now?

if i restart, what IP do i use, mine, the iPoT's or theirs??

    also
If they move, can i revesre this so it will work on a different WiFi

You should use the iPod's ip address. Go to WiFi settings and click on the blue dot. That will tell you your iPod's ip.

You only need this when trying to sh of sftp into the iPod, so it doens't relaly matter what the ip is, so long as you type in the correctone each time.

when PuTTY comes up it looks like its working
    then it comes up as

    Fatal Error
    Network Error: Connection timed out

the second time, the DOS box closed right after the putty box
    so, adding to my questions,
do i do it all again, restarting and so forth?

From how I'm reading your message it sounds like your computer and your ipod Touch are on different networks. Both of your machines need to be on the SAME WiFi network otherwise there's no way they'll connect. Pretty simple really.

Good catch! I didn't quite get that the first time. ThomasHayes is right, they just can not connect if they are on different networks.
