I thought the reason they weren't charging for iOS 4 is that the accounting rule they used to say they had to charge before was changed. So now it's free. Ironic though, that those that likely have paid the most for updates, especially those who bought the iPhone app package, can't get iOS4 without buying a new device. Looks like this will be my first upgrade, if they make the Touch 4 like the iPhone 4 (same processor, screen, 802.11n and at least the back camera.) Probably needs the compass and gyroscope too. This would be the first one that really says to me that I need to upgrade my first gen.
I updated from my 1G to a 3G and I never want to go back. And the reason they are making it free is because they have a "secure" and "safe" way to show us ads now. :/
But I heard since beta 2 iPhone 3G and iPod 2G get homescreen wallpapers. If they don't thats another reason for me to jailbreak iOS 4.
Well, what good timing to change my KO'ed 2G to a 3gen model... At least the new iPod touch can enjoy ALL the features in iOS 4 Still, it's good that Steve has finally made a major firmware upgrade like the iOS 4 into a freebie... That's what I've been waiting for all this while!
So it's most likely us 2G 8GB MC Model users will never get multi-tasking. It's time for a bootrom 4.0 jailbreak later this month so that we can get all the features
Awesome win for iPod Touch users! (like me!) Poster above me: A jailbreak will not allow FULL use of all the features some will not work because of hardware (like multi-tasking)
actually the 2g is fully capable of multitasking even the 1g is. and according to a lot of people you just have to edit something to get multitasking
JKK, Not a joke. I guess my jailbreak 16 GB Touch 2G version 3.0 makes me a luddite. Really, everything is working perfectly. Why "update"? I can see wanting an iPhone 4.0, especially if the "rates" are reasonable. But why update these "upgrades". I haven't yet seen a benefit. Maybe the benefit of each new version would be a good thread. Seriously.
