It does make sense. BTW, even 3rd Gen MC 8G iPTs face those same iOS4 restrictions as well, making JBing for all affected devices even more practical. There, spoon-fed. I hope that's on-topic enough for others.

When I read this news post, I was all like : :D
But then I wondered if spirit will work on it so I was like: :I
    So now I'm all: D:

anyways, sounds like it will be awesome. OS4 looks good, but I still like my jb more, but a preinstalled Multitask is probably my big point.

So what do iTouch 2G and iTouch 3G 8GB MC model owners get from iOS4 exactly ? I understand that we won't get multi-tasking, and i think somebody said that we will not get background wallpapers, so what will we get ?? Do we get atleast folders ?

NO BT Keyboards for 2Gs!!! I think I might punch a baby in the face, that was the one thing i wanted, anyone know if you can enable it with a .plist edit like you can with multitasking?

I think they're releasing OS4 for free because of two things:

    1) All the new iDevices showing up around the same time - the iPad WiFi, the iPad 3G + WiFi, and the iPhone 4 all showing up in the space of a two month period, on top of the iPod Touch refresh (possible).

    2) To encourage everyone to go over to iOS 4, which means that the jailbreakers will theoretically be screwed. Mind you, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, since this means fewer programs a jailbreaker needs to install... and frankly, a lot of people (IMO) don't need to jailbreak as is, not with some of the tech support posts which pop up, or the pirates begging for help.

i had already jailbroken with spirit, and then restored my ipod so the jailbreak is now gone. will i still be able to upgrade to 4.0?

Honestly, heres the first thing I thought when they said it would be free for all devices.

iAd's will make apple more money per device than charging 20 bucks for OS 4.0 will. It's just business, it has nothing to do with legal matters or about screwing jailbreakers. Its about making money.

On a related note... if I do jailbreak my 2G touch, when iOS4 comes out I assume it will nag me every time I hook it up to iTunes.
