I have a question about iOS4...Why not on the iPod Touch 1g? What's wrong with it that makes it not support this software?

It entices you to purchase an updated apple product.

The official reason, however, is "it does not have the hardware capabilities to run the software"

Ok, still Apple could have made it work, I guess just severely cripple it due to processor speed. Or a, raise the clock speed a bit again, member that?

No, 1st gen devices do not support it.

Basically, Apple didn't think the experience was good enough. Of would run, but it didn't meet Apple's standards. That and they like money.

That would make for an horrible battery life, to an already ancient device

Apple wont release a fw on a device that wont run it fast and snappy, its time to face it technology moves on

The specs on the old iPod Touches and iPhones aren't good enough to run iOS4 optimately.
