So, here are some things you need to know:

iPhone 3G has been kicked out of the epic stuffs loop
iPod 2G is still in, that means GAME CENTER!

Speed: A mile a second. Compared to 4.0, this thing is a rocket!
Yeah, yeah. I know that there's no jailbreak yet, but with this speed I couldn't resist!
Game center games are all paid for (at the moment) exept FarmVille. *shudder*
Still no chat in game center.
Game center looks much better than in the GM. No more baby barf concept.

Sorry to be skeptical, but are you sure that the speeds from 4.1 aren't because it's a "fresh" install?

Even with installing from a backup, you'll notice better performance at first with any firmware.

I wouldn't suggest jailbreaking 4.1. It causes a LOT of problems.

4.1 is not faster in any way whatsoever on the 2g. I just tested it. If anything, my homescreen scrolling (left and right) is laggier, and all my apps are the same speed. Loading, using, etc.

    Kinda a waste.

Depends, a backup really just saves you settings, it's more important for an iPhone because it has all of your contacts and stuff, so if you changed a lot of settings and have contacts for Texting apps, then yes, if not, no.

Even though I won't use GameCenter and I don't use my 3G often, I wonder why Apple decided to axe GameCenter from the 3G

The 3g iphone has a slightly slower processor than the 2g ipod touch. Thats why they left it on the 2g.

Also 4.1 is much faster on my 2g the settings app used to take a long 5 seconds to open. Now it only takes 2 seconds.
