I was curious if it would be possible to add an electret microphone to the solder points for the mic in and ground to make an internal microphone?

opening up the ipod, therefore voiding the warranty? And then soldering the insides of it?

Sounds kind of risky...I personally wouldn't do it unless you're really experienced. Just get a used iphone if you want the mic that bad.

yep or on craigslist. Around where I live, a 16GB iphone 3G goes for anywhere from $300-400. A bit on the expensive side for 16GB but hey, you get the camera and mic you all wanted so bad

EDIT: and although it'll lack a monthly contract, you'll probably be able to make calls if you jailbreak it or something,

I don't care about the Camera that much (I have a 1920 x 1080p HD Camcorder w/ 5MP lens - 12MP interpoling), I just wanted an internal mic. My backup plan was to cut off the top two rings from one of those mini mic's to still allow the speaker to function. Could that also work (providing the mic doesn't slide out)?

That's cool but would it function properly with the software?

I guess a Jailbreak mod could fix that.

Would cutting the top two rings off the mini mic adapter work so that I can still use the speaker without headphones or would the ground connection be a problem?
