This is a discussion thread for the "Intel Launches Quad-Core Ivy Bridge Processors" story posted on the front page.
I just bought a Sandy Bridge a couple months ago All the extra tech in there is unnecessary for me... but I want it anyway! lol
I wouldn't want Ivy Bridge, especially with the 22nm heat problems it's been having. I'd wait for a few steppings to go by. For now, my overclocked 2500K is chugging along just fine.
That will probably be after Windows 8. The next Windows (after 8) will probably be a Vista all over again and require a lot higher-end hardware, meaning hardware companies will up their game a bit.
Unless you have the First gen i7 (Nahalem), and not Sandy Bridge, you may have that problem. Sandy Bridges IPC (Instructions Per Clock) is so high, nothing will stress it for another few years, and with Ivy improving on that, hardware is actually getting faster then software can use it.
