I'm using iPhone 2G (2.1 firmware). I read the posts here and there and the guide:
    http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86490&highlight=access ssh wifi

But i don't really have access to WiFi at this time and point and probably not for a long time. ibrickr doesn't work with this firmware, neither does iGopher and I don't exactly understand how to use iphone browser to 'install' apps. Any particular help i could get ?

iPhone Browser should work fine -

    1. Open iPhone Browser
    2. Plug in your iPhone
    3. On the left hand side (where the list of all the directorys are)
      click on /Applications
    4. Drag the .app file into the /Application folder and it will be transferred!
Hope this solves your problem, if not, tell me

How exactly can i download the .app files directly ?
Edit: Then i can install the file directly from the iPhone installer or do i have to do something else too ?

And yea, i'm feeling pretty dumb if its that simple.

No, you need to have downloaded the .app file from the internet onto your computer before putting it on your iphone. Only some .app files of games can be found online.

If what you are looking for is a desktop alternative to Installer, then no, there is not one for 2.1 at the moment.

To use installer on the iPhone, you really do need to have a Wi-Fi connection (or a good EDGE connection)

So I'm afraid there is no other way around it, sorry mate.

Say if i use the .app zip file from export folder from (iGopher downloads that file and places it in cache folder ready for export) and transfer the contents of that file into a folder named xyz.app in the iphone /applications direcetory. Would i be able to do anything by that ? As in install or w/e ? Or would it appear

Once you drag the APPNAME.app into /Applications, simply reboot or respring and you will then have the app on your home screen ready to use!

I tried doing that, what you mentioned above; placed the name.app file in the /applications directory, rebooted the iphone. But it did not appear in the menu. Anything i'm doing wrong or is it just not possible like this ?
