if that doesnt SSH into your iPod and go to:
    /var/mobile/Library/Installer
    and delete remotesources.plist
then when uv got installer open, if you havent already download mobilefinder so you wont have to SSH everytime from your comp, just delete it from mobilefinder.

like Edwards said you have to delete that file because sometimes it gets to big. Whenever you refresh your sources it downloads all the source's package's install paths and stuff into that file and sometimes it gets to big for your Touch to open. Try to open that file with text edit. When you do it text edit crashes.

    there's a RemotePackages.plist but no remotesources one. i'm using 1.1.2 so it's not in /var/mobile/Library/Installer
but /private/var/root/Library/Installer. This file is 4.96mb. Maybe thats it??

yeah that is it and what a coincidence your Remotepackages.plist is the exact same file size as mine so im guessing 4.96mib is just way too big for installer to co-operate with. The only way to fix this without deleting remotepackages.plist everytime you want installer to work would be to remove some sources you dont need until Insataller works fine without remotepackages.plist having to be deleted all the time.
