Fore some reason, whenever I try to install new applications with Installer.app, it crashes when it gets to the "installing package" part of the installation... It's worked very well for me for a long time, but this began happening about a week ago... any suggestions?

Have you run out of space for apps? There is a limit of about 300mb.

Oh that could be possible... Is there an easy way to check how much space apps are taking up?

EDIT: Removed some apps... still doing the same thing...

By default, there are two partitions on the iPoT. One is for the applications and has ~300 MB, the other one is for the media and has the rest, ~8 or 16 GB. iTunes only shows the global occupation of the available memory so you can't see one partition is about to be full, Apple probably didn't pay much attention to this since the iPod wasn't supposed to host 3rd party applications to begin with.

Check this thread to move the applications to the bigger partition and get rid of this problem.

You can log onto the iPod with ssh or use the terminal application, and check the occupation with the df command.

I seem to be having this problem too. Installer always crashes, and I can't manual install either.

The problem is a size limit where applications is located

There is a sticky that solves this problem and basically Applications have to move to another location. I had the same problem. If you dont want to go through this process then uninstall apps you dont need

Check Sticky> HOW-TO: Get around the application space limit your Touch
