THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
I AM READING OFF ANOTHER SOMEWHAT UNCLEAR GUIDE AND EDITING HOW I GOT IT TO WORK
    THIS IS MY PROGRESS
I WILL BE MAKING AN AUTOMATOR SCRIPT
    UNDERLINE TEXT = TERMINAL COMMAND

    1. Download Files
    http://winxblog.com/iphonelinux-mac.zip

    2. Unzip and Drag files to Desktop

    3. cd Desktop

    4. cd iphonelinux-mac

    5. At this point make sure you are the admin. If you are not, type su THENAME and replace THENAME with the admin's name. It WILL request a password.

    6. killall iTunes

    7. killall iTunesHelper

    8. Steps 6 and 7 quit iTunes so it doesn't interfere with your iPod while you do this

    9. Unplug and turn your iPod off.

    10. Hold the home button and plug in your iPod until the connect to iTunes symbol pops up

    11. Step 10 puts your iPod in Recovery Mode (YOU WON'T BE THERE FOR LONG).

    12. ./loadibec openiboot-ipod.img3

    13. Wait about 5 seconds as your iPod boots into OpeniBoot

I AM NOT SURE ABOUT BELOW IF SOMEONE CAN CONFIRM IT WORKS:

    14. ./oibc You want to MEMORIZE this command

    15. Open the OpeniBoot console

    16. YOUR IN!!!!!

    17.

I am working the guide from here please be patient

    Nothing yet

So here are what I plan to do with this:
Make an Automator script that will install openiboot, another that will update it, and another that will boot linux

I plan to finish the guide soon

and YES, you can install linux completely from Mac. I have gotten it to work

hey, i am trying to do this on my iPhone 3G. How come I keep getting "Bus error"?
    I have:
    Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11
    2GHz Intel

    Any reason or help?
    ------------------double post merged------------------
Figured out my problem. Tiger does not work. PERIOD.
I tried it on my Leopard MacBook and it worked like a charm

It's because you're on Tiger. You have to install libusb.
