Comes used a PDF exploit to write the jailbreak code to the device. Is it possible to use this same PDF exploit to write the code for OpenSSH to the device instead of jailbreaking it? Which would allow JB apps through OpenSSH without JBing.

It would be a lot harder with a lot of apps that depend on non-native code, like mobile substrate. Why don't you just jailbreak it?

Jailbreak, download SB Settings, hide the Cydia icon.

How technically advanced are his parents? Just don't install any themes. Wallpapers and multitasking are in iOS 4.0+. Most tweaks aren't graphical besides Winterboard. All jailbreak apps look like normal apps on the home screen until you hold down an icon for a bit.

By the way, the definition for jailbreaking is running unauthorized code and opening the file system on the device. By installing SSH you are running unauthorized code. OpenSSH also requires access to the file system. You are basically jailbreaking, just doing it in a pain in the butt way.

Even if it were possible some some minor extent t would be silly and not worth it

you still need to get root privileges for things like mobile substrate and the such, Most if not all worthy jialbreak apps require root access

I think he meant as in Cydia apps, most people call unofficial 3r party apps "jailbreak or jailbroken apps" myself included
