    I picked up a free promo code for Inspirational Quotes by Sencedev in a thread in the iTunes App Store chat forum.

    'Man is the only creature empowered with the gift of laughter' - Greville.

    I'm not inspired (Greville probably never heard of Hyenas) but I'm certainly made to think and interested to read a few more quotes. It, at least, saves me the hassle of reaching up and grabbing my 'Book of Quotations' off the bookshelf that I bought several years ago on a whim but never more than browsed.

    And I suppose that is what this app is good for. Browsing when you have a few quiet seconds and seek a moment of mild contemplation, and perhaps a secondary use if you are stuck for something high-brow to say. Not that this happens a lot and not that a random quote will help you much. Still, as there must have been a reason I bought a 'Book of Quotations' so there will be a reason people buy this app for 99¢.

    The blurb states that the app offers '300 quotes', including 'Albert Einstein, Confucius, Martin Luther King, etc..'. Three hundred quotes, whoever they may be by, doesn't really seem enough to keep me inspired for long. I just whizzed through a hundred in a matter of minutes and the limited longevity of this app means it won't be holding a place on my Springboard for long, especially when my nine pages are already brimming over with App Store wonders. To be fair though the dev does state that the app will be updated with submitted quotes.

    The app has limited functionality:

    • 'Next' to page forward to the next quote (no backpage?),;
    • Add quotes to a list of favourites and view them;
    • Email single quotes;
    • Submit your own quotes to the dev for inclusion in the next update;
    • An option to randomise the displayed quote order (useful if you've been through the 300 quotes once already I suppose).

    Conclusion

    If you're a quote fan or, on a whim, fancy reading some inspirational sayings by geniuses of the past and present, then you might pick this up. However, in my view it needs a hefty update in content, functionality and presentation to make it worth even 99¢ as there's a huge number of better programmed more enjoyable ways to kill some time and get inspired already available on the App Store.

    Good review, but I wouldn't go so far to call it 'bad'. It's quite useful, and some quotes are very entertaining.

    I figured that I'd taken a code so I'd better review it as no one else had. Do you agree with what I said in the review? Anything to add or any constructive criticism?

    Fair point. I just didn't consider it worth $0.99 with the current content of only 300 quotes. Once the dev updates it I may revisit the review. It's still on my springboard for now.

    A few things that I didn't like was the fact that the background stays the same.
    Another thing that took me a little while to figure out was you have to scroll on the long quotes

    Good review. I think it deserves more stars..but whatever.
    I talked to the developer an he's already submitted a big update to the app store.

    Nice feedback on the review everyone. Thanks. Agreed I may have been a bit harsh with a 2 but I think it needed more content for a 3 (e.g. more quotes, scrolling backgrounds, better functionality) for it to be priced at 99 cents. Looks more like a free app in its current form.

    It would be a better free app. They'd get more downloads, And more comments, so they can improve it, and maybe make it worthy of a price tag.

    Nice review.
