Inside iFans is a new feature where I'll be giving you guys a transparent look at the inner workings of iFans, giving you a clue to what it's like to be a moderator here, and hopefully answering any questions you've got. Feel free to ask about specific topics, and if it's appropriate then it may be featured in the next instalment! Inside iFans: Reported Posts With our new forum software comes some changes to the way that we, as staff, moderate the forum. In this feature, I'll be discussing reported posts and how there have been some radical changes which hopefully you'll all be appreciative of, and will help towards making iFans a better place for everyone. Before I start though, it's important that users remember to report posts where they feel that the content is breaking the rules of iFans, or ones in general that you feel should be brought to our attention. It's better we dismiss reports than to never have seen them in the first place! In the old VB system, when a user reported a post, we were all sent an email to our inboxes with the content of the report, a link to the post and some other information. These reports were also visible in our "What's New" list as a thread. This meant that nearly all reported posts were seen by at least one moderator, but there was a chance that it could be missed. It didn't happen very often, but the potential was there. The new system is very different though. When you guys report a post, we get a bright red number next to a "reported items" bar at the top of every page. Until the report is dealt with, every moderator sees that something needs to be taken care of. From there, we can read the report, see content etc and deal with it as necessary. Until a mod takes action or the report is dismissed, I guarantee you that every mod knows about it. Yes, every single page! Remember though, like the old reported post feature, it is not to be abused. Anyway, that's a quick walkthrough of one of the new ways we're moderating the forum and ensuring that posts that need attention are dealt with. Feel free to post questions about our new reported post system, or what you'd like to read about in future editions of Inside iFans.
