As a side not i want to make this perfectly clear: If you do not have an account with AT&t, you can buy the iphone 3g at the SUBSIDIZED price. However when you do that you are also signing up for a two year contract with At&t which is going to cost about $90 a month.

If you CURRENTLY have a contract with At&t and your contract is going to END SOON, you can buy the iphone at the SUBSIDIZED price when your contract expires. However once again you are renewing your contract for another two years.

NEW customers get subsidized price. They are signing up for a NEW 2 year contract which is why the price is subsidized.

I am moving to Florida this summer, and my family is getting new phones and contracts because of the new area code and because of adding an extra person to our plan. I currently have a blackberry 8700c (few models old), and was thinking about getting an iPhone. Would I only be required to pay $299 for a 16 gb phone, and then an extra 30 a month for the unlimited 3g plan with the voice plan existing as part of our family plan? or would I run into some stupid sh*t lol

Is there a way for non-AT&T customers to get the phone by paying the unsubsidized price? In other words, do you know if it is possible to buy the iphone without a contract at full (and yet unknown) unsubsidized price?
