After almost 4 years of trial and error and an abondonment of the infamous hacker geohot, the most secure console of all time, the ps3 has finally been hacked to run homebrew and 3rd party software. It is a simple plug and play USB dongle called PSJailbreak. They are currently available for pre-order and will begin shipping in the next week or so. There are many clones in development also, due to the PSJailbreak's $120 price tag, they are known as PS3Stinger, X3Jailbreak, and from the creators of WiiKey, PS3Key. These clones will utilize the same exploit, and will be available for as little as $20.

It is currently unknown if we will be able to get a free software based jailbreak, using a USB dump.

    To pre-order PSJailbreak go to:

    Yh its old, sorry

    Oh and BTW http://kotaku.com/5623505/sony-temporarily-blocks-sale-of-ps3-modchips

BTW, Sony have firmware updates like every-time you insert a Bluray disc or game into it (The PS3), so it wont last long, especially since they have hold of the devices now.

Its not a jailbreak by no means
Its just a tool that fools the system into thinking it is on developer testing mode

This shouldn't even allowed to talk in here, since it will be used for piracy mainly

There's a chip inside the usb device so a simple software dump wouldn't work. Also there will be more hacks like this to come so even if Sony patches this up it won't be the end of it.

The same could be said for the main reason for the iPod/iPhone jailbreak is mainly for piracy which is true.

    'compelling argument'

How about illegal download's of games from Dev's that spend tons on games and depend on sales for a wage?

Take GT5's $60 Million cost for EG.

Wow, no it's utilizing the exploit using the debug mode and no it is not purely for piracy, this exploit finally gives playstation users homebrew and 3rd party apps, thats like saying cydia is just for piracy
