My wife recently purchased the "new" 8GB Touch, and i've been trying to downgrade it, it shipped with 3.1.1, so far nothing works, i've read a few things on here and other places, and tried them all, dfu + click restore, installed older version of iTunes 8.2, etc.

I've tried firmwares 2.1.1, 2.2.1,3.0, etc same thing, error 1601.

Any help? or is it just simply not possible right now?

    thanks

I don't believe you can downgrade below the firmware that ships with the iPod.

No you can't. I'm returning mine and buying a refurbished since I don't know when JB will be release for the new Touches.

The third gens CANT go under 3.1.1, but if you have a second gen then you will 100% be able to downgrade.

Reportedly the new 8GB iPod touch can't be downgraded below 3.1.1... It seems there's a hardware change that prevents it, similar to the new 3G iPod touch...
