Guys i just want an answer which involves YES or NO...

Is it possible for me to preserve my baseband on 1.59 while updating to FW 4.1 ?

I have a iphone 4 FW 4.0.2 BB 1.59 (out of the box)
I just have shsh for 4.1 and not for 4.0.2or earlier.

    Thanks..

    No.

Not yet. There will be a way soon, though.
You can only do that [at the moment] with a non-MC device.

EDIT: I guess I'm wrong. Sorry.

Yes, you can use TinyUmbrella to do so. All you need is to have your 4.1 SHSH saved, which you can do now.

While you can downgrade your baseband, I highly recommend preserving your baseband. Never upgrade to a stock firmware.

Ah, I didn't know you could downgrade your baseband.

I was under the impression that it would stay at the newest one installed.

If your baseband I compatible then yes (1.59 iirc).

    Anything newer is not unlockable.

The baseband and ios are two separate but connected systems hence why there are ways to update ios but not the baseband.
