Now that we have access to the iPad's internal file system, is it possible to import books into iBooks directly on the iPad without needing to go through iTunes? I realize it would need to be in the proper formats. Thanks guys!

Thanks, but I know how to convert the books and import into iTunes. The question I had was whether this could be done without iTunes altogether.

I download PDFs online via Safari Download Manager, click them when they are done, then click 'open via iBooks' and it is now under PDFs for access at any point in time now. EASY!

you can load them onto Dropbox and open them as you want from there, either from the app or through safari, another way is to email them to yourself and open then in iBooks from there.

I haven't found a way to add bulk books except iTunes, which is awful because it has no way to easily remove books from the library.

You can import them through the mail app. just email your .epub or other file and then open in ibooks.
