?

Were you going to use iMovie on your older iDevice? (everything except iPhone 4)

I came across this article on twitter:

    Link: http://tinyurl.com/2wywejw

as this article states, it is not possible to install iMovie on the iPhone 3Gs (means also not any other iDevice) since it has to be running on a device with the A4 chip.

This really angers me that Apple just excludes previous iDevice owners, I thought that the speed and cpu management from the 3Gs was comparable to the iPhone 4.

So, did Apple exclude the people without a iPhone 4 on purpose for the money and that the 3Gs is capable of running iMovie? Or is the A4 chip really needed for using iMovie?

Please share your thoughts about this.

HD movie editing needs some serious power. The iPhone 3GS' processervisnt fast enough. Anyway I'm sure someone will find a way to spoof the device model number or what ever iMovie needs to run

You wouldn't run applications meant for Snow leopard OSX on the original Macintosh would you? It wouldn't be able to handle it because it lacks the power. This is the same scenario.

Can you run PS3 games on a PS2? XBOX 360 games on an XBOX? You honestly think Apple is the only company who does this?

Exactly, all companies have to develop their software further than their devices, and bring out new devices. like iOs 4.

I can't argue with that, but don't forget that 3Gs is not capable of recording HD videos. As it is, iPhone 3Gs should have more than enough power to edit videos with its native resolution (320x480), so I think the original poster has a point there, guys. iMovie should be available for 3Gs users. They should release a separate app at least and call it iMovie SD (standard definition).

why would you want it on anything other than the iPhone 4? The quality of the videos would suck, lol.
