Before commenting, please do two things:
    1. Read iMore's post in its entirety, so you're informed. She isn't being unfair
    2. Observe the rules. While this thread is obviously open for debating this topic, nothing should be said about how to pirate apps. Warnings can and will be used, regardless of the topic, if one strays to far over the line.

This is why before even developing an App, you must program with piracy in mind, knowing that people will obtain it illegally and a percentage of your efforts will go unrewarded. Not to sound mean but it is the truth.

Let's be honest with ourselves. Much of the App Store is crapware that no one wants to pay for.

If the apps you download are good and you use them, buy them and support the developer. Easy as that.

My only thought is, would the pirates buy the apps if piracy wasn't an option?

If the app is worth the actual value. ie: Final Fantasy Tactics for the iPad IMO is not worth $14.99 or whatever they're charging due to the number of bugs and the fact it's not even retina, and you can get the actual PS1 game a lot cheaper, make an ISO of it, and emulate it for a better experience. That is just one example.

Exactly. I don't think piracy hurts as much as people think. For example lets say 100 people have infinity blade 2. Out of those 100 people, 40 of them are pirated copies. So they really only sold 60 copies instead of 100. But, if piracy did not exist not all 40 of those people would actually pay for it, they would just go without.

Let me just make something clear before I post; In do way do I endorse or encourage piracy by what I'm about to say...

There are quite a few Apps on the AppStore as well as tweaks on Cydia that are ridiculously over priced, in my opinion that is. While I can't say that I support piracy, I can see why some people would with the prices of some apps and tweaks now-a-days. Seriously, some tweaks on Cydia are $10, some I can understand why and some I can't. I did notice something in the article that really did grab my attention:

Sadly, this is true. Not only is this for backing up data, but taking the time to fix problems with their iPods, iPhones, and iPads in general.

Once again, I did not endorse or encourage piracy by my statement above. I was simply expressing my opinion. Be sure to support the developers, and most of all.. don't steal apps.

So people steal applications because their crappy? That doesn't make any sense.

Are you going to go to a garbage dump and steal garbage?
