Wouldnt that be the same thing as skype? Or facetime with typing:confused:

I was trying to figure out how they are going to do iMessage, especially since iPads and iPod Touches dont have dedicated numbers to use. It only makes sense that they use the same credentials for facetime to use iMessage. I was reading on Appleinsider that AT&T and Verizon didnt even know about iMessage. I wonder if they are going to stick their nose into that somehow and squeeze a few more bucks from us.

Edit: Now that I think about it, iMessage is a nice way of telling carriers to go screw themselves with their messaging plans. Obviously, not everyone is going to have an iPhone...BUT I bet there are still quite a few people out there with iPod Touches who will salivate over this. Think about it. The carriers make you get 1000 minutes at minimum anymore and they include an unlimited text messaging bundle. Who in the hell needs 1000 minutes when 95% of the population anymore gets their information from texting, facebook, twitter etc... If anything, they should lower the minimum minute rate, keep the unlimited texting and lower the data plans. I know that will never happen but it just makes more sense to me.

Well do Verizon and AT&T do anything about BBM at all other than the data charge? It's going to be the same on the iPhone.

    Lemme rephrase...

I thought it would be cool if Apple did some sort of iOS cross platform messaging like BBM, which would be free and have read/delivered receipts, but then realized that it probably wouldn't happen since Apple is too greedy for money. But now I'm happy because it did happen!

Apple most likely doesn't care either way. They make no money whether messages are sent via data or via sms. It's the carries who are probably going to pissed. Sms is their cash cow.
