im supposed to tell my brother what laptop to buy. this is generally what im looking for, price range of 650 dollars or less (unless its a really, really good deal)

one of those dual core i5s, 2.1GHz or more
A video card with at least 512MB, 128 bit, playing basic games like WoW and maybe call of duty, nothing like crysis (yet) something better would be great tho
4GB of ram, obviously. i think DDR3 is becomming the craze, i havent brushed up on that so im not sure.
a bigger screen rather than a smaller one, 15.6" seems good to me.

Im usually good at this stuff, but i want to get him the best possible one for the best possible price. i usually prefer Acer or gateway, but the tech is getting so much better faster and i just cant keep up with it. please, please, dont recommend me an HP. im sorry if you think they are the sh*t, i hate them. so please, just skip over HP...

    thanks alot for helping!

No the gateway has really bad graphics. The Pentiums on the other laptops are bottlenecks though. But if you want to play WoW and COD, get the one with the GT 320M.

1GB of "hypermemory"? Wth is hypermemory? It sounds an awful lot like a sad excuse for shared graphics memory.

No, go with the Asus. Better company, doensn't have an awful logo, and the gpu is dedicated.

The CPU isn't nothing to write home about, but it'll get the job done. Everything else looks slick.

IT IS AN OEM LAPTOP. no overclock...

And it isn't faster, just much better for the price. The fastest Phenom II X4 is barely faster than an i5 quad core, and the fastest Phenom II X6 hex core is killed by i7 quad cores.

    For desktops:
    Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz = i5-750 2.66 GHz
Phenom II X6 1035T 2.6 GHz hex core = Core 2 Extreme 3.2 GHz quad core
Phenom II X6 1090T (best AMD) = Intel Core i7-960, 3.2 GHz quad.

the i7-975 quad, and i7-980X hex core kill it.

I just did a bit of Googling, and apparently the Turions and Pentiums have similar performances. So go with the Asus, unless you need the larger screen size and hard drive capacity of the Gateway.

OT: iPwn, your computer's running an overclocked CPU and a 250 watt PSU? It's gonna blow!
