I want to upgrade to the stock iOS 4 so I can jailbreak, but I keep getting errors 1601 or 1602. I was spirit'd on 3.1.3 and never got Spirit2Pwn. I have an iPod touch 2G MC model. I think that I might not even ever be able to update my firmware again. I tried removing and reinstalling iTunes and even wiping my device from my settings. Is there any way to restore without iTunes?

No. Just use iTunes, put your device into dfu mode and restore. It should update

Google the errors to see what try mean. It doesn't hurt to search if you haven't already

I tried to put it into DFU. Same thing. I googled the errors and it said to reinstall iTunes. It didn't work. I completely gave up on iTunes. I think if I want to jailbreak I'll need a new computer, or a new iPod. I tried my brother's laptop, but his can't access the iTunes store or connect to Apple to restore me.
