Yes it is the only Jailbreak available at the moment, but it's really not a big deal

Mine is tethered, and I have been absolutely fine with it...it's caused no problems at all

It's ONLY for complete rebooting (fully powering off your device, or if the battery reaches 0 and turns the ipod off). Using standby mode, or when you respring after downloading a Cydia/Rock app you do NOT need to reboot with blackrain.

    Now I'm confused.

    3gen is x4 faster then the 2gen.

You can buy a refurbished iPod touch 2gen on Apple online site.

The only time Tethering was an issue for me back in the days of 2.2.1 was if my iPod ran out of batteries or it crashed and tried to auto-reboot. But it's very annoying when you're on the go and don't have immediate access to your computer.

4 times faster...? How do you figure that?

Besides the OP is looking into the 8gb model which has no hardware upgrades from the 2nd gen. Unless you wanted to spend a little more on the 32gb 3rd gen model I would buy another 8gb second gen. At least you can be untethered that way.

BTW, a 16gb 2g costs the same as an 8gb 3g from apple, and it's not tethered, but is a refurb.
