Hi, I'm trying to preorder from AT&T's website, and when I go to "upgrade" the iPhone isn't available from my account (3gs purchased about 5 months ago)

It was to my understanding that everyone with an iPhone was eligible for an early upgrade.

I think your contract has to finish within 2010 to get the early upgrade. You're stuffed pretty much...

You can still get the iPhone4 but it will cost you an additional $200 and a renewal of your contract starting from when you get the phone.

. Would it be smarter to pay $400 and upgrade my brothers phone to an iPhone 4 and then use it (I'd have to cut up my current sim card I guess), or go ahead and pay the full fee?

I bought my 3GS in June 2009 and am eligible for an upgrade right now. My contract doesn't end until June 2011. I get the upgrade plus $18 fee or something.
