    Hello,
This is if Itunes does not recognize your Ipod/Iphone,
I did this on a Windows Computer not sure how to do it on a MAC

    Steps:
    1. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device
    2. Uninstall Itunes, It will ask to restart do so.
    3. When computer restarted open up Task Manager by clicking CTRL+ALT+DELETE
    4. Go to processes and make sure nothing says apple or has to do with itunes or apple, if it does end that process
    5. Reinstall Itunes HERE
    6. Then take your Ipod Touch/Iphone out of your computer and stick it back in and it should work.

    HOPE I HELPED

PLEASE DO NOT FLAME THIS IS FOR PEOPLE THAT NEED HELP

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I ended up having to start a restore without Itunes and do a full restore. Not a big deal, but a pain in the ass.

Itunes is just an index of music on your system. You won't lose that. You can back up your Library.xml file to keep all of you relevant data (song ratings, playlists, etc..).
