If you got it August 17th, with the 30 day return policy you can take it back today, so you better hurry. I think this has been covered though. If you have a 30 day return policy, its usually 30 days from the day it was purchased from a store. I could be wrong.

I mean, does the Apple store do anything like this? A 30 day warranty or anything? My friends bought it online and got it engraved so I'm not sure. Any one want to clarify?

I don't believe they accept any returns on engraved ipods. They'll repair it if its under warranty, but they won't replace it.

I think the return policy for the apple store is only for 14 days.

I do believe you are correct.

while I feel sorry for people who purchased theirs just before the event, a different part of me feels its their fault for not researching. This is Apple and they refresh product lines often.

Though I can see if it was a gift.

Yes they will... I talked to the guy at apple, and he asked me if I would like a box for me to send my iPod to be fixed or replaced. If replaced, they re engrave it. Since engraving takes like 3 seconds for the longest message possible on the touch.

Yes, but that is if there is a defect in the product. They aren't going to replace one just because you want the updated version.

I don't see why having a 1G Touch is a bad thing. It can be jailbroken, and runs the same apps and firmwares as the 2G. Personally, I wouldn't trade jailbroken features for anything on an iPod Touch.
