If I were planning on getting a new iPod Touch, could I just get this instead?

EDIT: Just found out about like $600 no-contract iPhones. Screw that, I guess I'm just going to wait for the new iPod Touch.

As of right now, I have no need for a phone but I really like the extra capabilities that the iPhone has and the new one looks great. Right now I have a first gen iPod Touch, got it back when there were no second or third gens and it's an 8 gig. I have been out of space on it for a while and I really need a new one but I don't feel like waiting to see what the new iPod Touch is going to be like and then waiting longer for it to come out. Could I just buy a 4th gen iPhone when it comes out but not get a plan or anything? Use it for everyone EXCEPT the phone capabilities?

    Sure but it'll cost you $600 for a 16gb.

I think you should. You will bite your fingers when you realize in 6 months that you'd like to have a phone...
