I bought an unlocked iPhone (2G) off eBay last week and I've been using it since Friday. I love it

I jailbroke my iPod Touch a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering if I jailbroke my iPhone, will it stay unlocked?

    1. You need to have 2.2 or less to unlock
    2. It wont stay unlocked. If you want it unlocked in higher versions jailbreak it with pwnage tool (only for macs sry)

It depends. Is it a factory unlocked or yellowsn0w/Quickpwn unlocked?

I think that with the 2g iphone it's safe to jailbreak no matter if its factory unlocked or unlocked by Quickpwn.

I believe that only the 3g had to worry about upgrading the firmware because they would lose their "magic" baseband.

All and all your safe to jailbreak(I'm 99% positive), but have someone check this comment

    Not True!

Like Nburnes mentioned the 2G iPhone firmware (and baseband) does not matter. The 2G's baseband can be downgraded (as where the 3G's cannot be).

If your iPhone is unlocked it is most likely already jailbroken. It might not show signs of being jailbroke but unless it is a factory unlock it has already been jailbroken.

If it were me I would back up my info; restore to factory to check if it is a factory unlocked phone (I doubt it is) and then start over with a JB / unlock.

    If i buy a iphone 3G now,
is it possible for me to get it jailbroken + unlocked and have it in 2.2.1 firmware (after i finish quickpwn)??
I have windows, so is there a pwnage tool for that?

There are two ways to have an unlocked 3G iPhone on 2.2.1:

    1. Normal phone that was on 2.2 (with baseband 2.28.00) gets JB and unlocked. From there you can restore it to a custom firmware made by Pwnage Tool (Mac Only). The custom firmware preserves the baseband but updates the firmware to 2.2.1

    2. There are factory unlocked iPhone sold in BFE. I am not sure how hard or expensive it would be to get one; but they are out there.
