I think it has been clarified by now that it is next to impossible to brick your iPod touch 2g. DFU, white screen, and shift restore. Right? Right!

However, there are many other scary scenarios that a tethered jailbroken iPod touch 2g user can run into.

    We will be discussing several.

    1.The Black Screen of Death

The Black Screen of Death scenario is when trying to reboot/restore an iPod touch 2g, no white screen comes up after running the arm-7 code. When this happens, it is impossible to restore, or reboot. However, this situation is usually only temporary. It could take you a day or two of several boot attempts before it will come around, but dont be scared. You aren't the first one it's happened too.

    2.The False Bricking

This is the most common problem in the tethered jailbreaking scenario. It is the easiest to fix as well. When this happens, your iPod needs o be set in DFU mode, and the following commands must be run via iRecovery.

    Code:
    irecovery -f iBSS211.dfu
Hit the enter key when done. Unplug, and replug iPod.

    Code:
    irecovery -s
    arm7_stop
    mw 0x9000000 0xe59f3014
    mw 0x9000004 0xe3a02a02
    mw 0x9000008 0xe1c320b0
    mw 0x900000c 0xe3e02000
    mw 0x9000010 0xe2833c9d
    mw 0x9000014 0xe58326c0
    mw 0x9000018 0xeafffffe
    mw 0x900001c 0x2200f300
    arm7_go
    arm7_stop
    /sendfile iBSS221.dfu
    go
    /exit
Hit the enter key when done.

    Code:
    irecovery -f iBoot221.img3
    irecovery -s
    go
    /exit
Hit the enter key when done.

    It should now boot up.

    3.The Non-Responsive Scenario
The Non-Responsive scenario can be very, very scarry. In this scenario, neither iRecovery, or itunes, can detect your ipod. Sometimes not even your computer can! This problem is quickly fixed. Setting you ipod in dfu mode several times, restart your computer, and try again.

    4.The iTunes Error Scenario
This is probably the least scarry problem of all the currently available jailbreaking methods.

During this scenario, itunes will come up with an error when you use the steps to restore to a custom/original firmware. Simply close iTunes, and restart the process. It should work.

    5.The Constant Freeze Scenario
This is a very, VERY annoying scenario. Your iPod will constantly freeze, and will not respond to any of your finger movements. Sometimes after opening one application, and then closing it, your iPod will freeze up.

    The fix is simple...re-jailbreak.

6.The Semi-Freeze Scenario(This can probably happen to any iPod touch/iphone, whether jailbroken, or not.
This Scenario takes place in which the screen will suddenly turn slightly darker, and not respond to your finger movements. However, you can close your ipod. To fix this, simply double tap the home screen key. A music player will pop up. From there, select music. You can now exit music, and your ipod will begin responding again.

All of these problems are scarry, but all can be fixed. Most of them are caused by the buggy tethered jailbreak. It is highly suggested that you use the new untethered jailbreak. There are several methods of doing so, but I highly reccomend the use of quickfreedom.

This program will lead you through the entire jailbreaking process.

Mac OS users can use another good tool called:Untetherizer
