I was wondering is it possible to download ebooks from barnes and noble and use them in the iBooks app or will I have to download the Nook app in order to read them on my iPad??

Well, depends on the filetype. Currently, iBooks supports Epub and PDF formats. So if the ebooks from Barnes and Noble are either of those, just drag them into your iTunes library and sync them into your device.

If they are not in those formats you can use http://www.2epub.com/
That's a pretty simple site but its really good.
That website you can change text files of notes and stuff from school and view it on your iPod its awesome.

Download the Nook app and if it works like the amazon app that will be the easiest way to read all the books you ordered from Barnes. I have a lot of books I ordered from Amazon and I use both iBooks and Amazon app. for reading.
