I want to buy a MacBook Pro but...

it seems like Im getting a lot less for my money, that is its 2,600 dollars for something that is like 1,900 on dell.com, that is hardware wise. I want the 4GB of ram and I want the 512mb Nvidia card but they sure seem to charge a hefty amount for both of them. I also want the 7200rpm HDD but I dont want to pay an extra 150 for that, seems like wayy too mcuh.

If I did get a mac I would dual boot windows XP.

So is it just me or is apple really pricey hardware wise and is a MacBook Pro worth it?

You're talking about the mid end 15 inch model right?

If you want 4 GB of RAM, order it from Crucial or Newegg for much cheaper and install it yourself! This is a tip for both Windows and Mac PC's. It's an extra 50 dollars, not $150.

Don't forget that the Mac Book Pro also includes:

    • 5 Hours of Battery Life <--Very important.
    • FireWire 400 & 800 (Great for Backing up)
    • BlueTooth with EDR and Airport A/B/G/N
    • iSight + Omni Directional Mic
    • Full Sized Keyboard + Trackpad with Gestures
    • LED Backlit display (Which is power saving and is richer looking)
    • 1440 x 900 for a 15 inch display. On Window's Notebooks, you get 1280 x 800
    • Leopard + iLife '08

I have a Dell XPS M1710, 2GB ram, GeForce GTX7950 513mb graphics card, ... It cost me around $3000 but it definitly blows away any mac piece of crap. I advise you to go for the Dell and steer clear of the mac OS, use XP or vista if you have to but I assure you that the Dell will be much better both preformance and cost wise.

You can get an upgraded battery for the Dell, lasts about 3-4 hours (depending on the settings)
Firewire costs about $20 to get installed (on some models)
Of course bluetooth can be added, $20 if not free
WTF is iSight, I bet you don't need it!
ALL DELLS HAVE A FULL SIZED KEYBOARD!!!
You can get any size screen, from 13' to 17.5' (the 17.5' chews up the battery though)
And Leopard/iLifeis just for fruits, go for XP or Linux (believe me Vista is not worth the time)

Wow, sad and depressing. Gaming Laptop is a Failure, seriously.

Wow, you have to UPGRADE your battery to get 3 - 4 Hours? How much power does an un-upgraded battery give? 10 Minutes? And look at all that extra stuff you have to pay extra and get addons for. BTW, iSight is a web cam.

Have you ever used Mac OS X?

COD4 is great although quite nerdy. My laptop would blow away your POS so shut it and it is quite productive. The laptop is only as productive as the person using it! Oh, and I suppose gay porn is a better past time for you than COD4.

OK I noticed, yea I've used mac os and really hated it. You can buy a new battery on Ebay for the XPS, $50 about and it triples the battery life for my pc. Right now my original battery lasts 1.5 hours because the 512mb graphics card is running at full speed. Dells come with built in webcams and all of those addons cost a little but if you add it all up they are still atleast $500 less than a mac.

Once i saw that post, I had to put it as my sig!

Wow.... 1.5 Hours... Really? That's... Terrible dude... Why would you need so much graphics power? What do you usually do on your Laptop anyway?

The only games that I can think of that are actually fun is.. Well, Team Fortress 2.
