Hey guys. I'm hoping you can help me decide what to do. I had a MP3 player, that was really old, and 512MB... it broke. I'm gonna buy some device to replace it, but I've decided I want a versatile one that can at least browse the net as well. AFAIK, that leaves the G1, or itouch. If you know of others, please share.

Note that I will NOT be getting any plans if I get the G1; I'd also buy a 16GB card for it, which would effectively put the total price at 500$ USD for the G1. I could buy the 16GB itouch for 300$ CAD, so I'm paying 240$ more. I would use lots of features, though, and here's what I would have on both devices:

    The itouch would be:
An awkward dictionary, Bescherelle, and minor encyclopedia.
    A calculator
    An awkward notepad
    A awkward calendar
    A better ebook reader
    A better MP3 player
    A memory stick
    A speaker
    A portable video player
    A better gaming machine
    An awkward internet browser
A very awkward IM, emailer, texter, tweeter, and IRCer

    While the G1 would be:
A dictionary, Bescherelle, and minor encyclopedia.
    A calculator, including graphing capabilities.
A notepad I'll always have with me
    A calendar
    A ebook reader
An MP3 player with expandable storage
A camera, hopefully a video camera as well soon
    A compass
    A voice recorder
    A memory stick
    A speaker
    A portable video player
    A gaming machine
    A internet browser
An IM, emailer, texter, tweeter, and IRCer
    A GPS
And a phone, although that will be mostly only VoIP.

So what do you guys think; Which should I buy?

I find the G1's keyboard a bit crappy.

Add crappy camera to that list too. Hilarious - I tried a G1 camera in a T-Mobile store and I swear it was like 2+ full seconds between button press and shutter release. Oh, and the resulting image was horrific.

its the appstore apps that do it for me. ... and the price of the G1 (over here, same as a 16GB 3G iphone from vodafone)

if this dude is smart he probably put the same question on the G1 forums and had everybody telling him to get the G1.
