I had some similar issues. I had to restore using 2.1.1. It didn't work with 2.2.1.

    Solution!!!

I had the same problem to fix use this GUI to install jailbroke firmware ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1232803&posted=1#post1232803

Then after the step where you install patch jailbreak.ispw stop and close the program

Use this iboothelper 0.8 from http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139052
it is pretty much what you do in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhVb1Diz3gM&feature=channel_page but done almost automatically
when you are in irecovery step you need to type these commands each line at a time and press ENTER after line is typed.
