But i dont want AT&T as a service i want t-mobile. i know there is yellowsnow but im not sure how it works. is it just like a jailbreak for an iPod touch?

Also i use my ipod all the time. I listn to music on the bus and while i skate to the bus and i love playing new apps so it kinda scares if the batter doesnt last as long as i need it to.

Yellowsn0w is the baseband unlock for 3G iPhones and works UPTO 2.2 firmware. The baseband on newer firmwares has not been opened as yet. the iPhone 2G is open on all firmwares.

Battery life on the iPhone isn't too bad. Check the battery link in my sig for some ways to improve battery life.

If you like the iPod touch you will love the iPhone....

My suggestions would be to find a 2G for T-Mobile (unless you need the GPS) as the 3G will only get an Edge connection anyway.

Edge and 3G are two different forms of cellular internet. Edge is slower than 3G.

can you really tell the difference though? how much slower is it compared to 3g?

According to Steve Jobs at the WWDC '08 Keynote, EDGE has a loading time on national geographic of 60 seconds, and 3G has it in 21 seconds. Figures may not be exact.

It is much slower. Apple uses the slogan "Twice as Fast, Half the Price" for iPhone 3G.

However, my TMobile Edge while in full bars is pretty fast. Loads a typical web page in 4-6 seconds.

3G is nice to have but it will not work with T-Mobile (different frequencies).

I could tell a difference and miss 3G but didn't like paying at&t.

My best analogy is like dial up (Edge) versus high speed (3G) on a computer.

what about like app speed, does the edge affect that?
