    hey all,

I'm going to purchase an iPhone 3G, but a secondhand one.
so I was wandering some sites, and found an iPhone (3G?)
    my question is;
is this iPhone which is shown on the picture a 3G?

Indeed, it is an iPhone 3G, running what seems to be 2.0-2.2.1. Doesn't look in very good condition though.

no it isn't, it is a FAKE!

the iphone 3G is very similar to that but watch the top of the device on the photo:

there're 2 clearly visible lighter spots...
they're the sensors on the real iphone there're 3 (three! not two) (I have the phone in front of me^^) the big ones in the photo has to be seperated into 2 small circles and all 3 have to be less visible

a real iphone 3G looks like the one on the case (the case seems to be real) so don't buy!

okay thanks for you reply man, but if I'm comparing the box picture with the real iPhone, the area around the Home button seems different, I mean the height...

Ah wait; don't trust it. Upon closer examination, there is some inconsistancies. I'll try and point them out soon.

EDIT: If it is an imitation, it's a really good one. The iPhone OS looks perfect on the device, alarm on, full signal strength...

    read my post above^^

also the small speaker for calls (the little gap nearby the sensors) isn't in the middle like on the case...so it is fake, once again!

    and hey, by the way:
the iphone 3g is printed as a picture in 1:1 format on the case so the device on the right is smaller

I think it is one of these asian nano-iphone fakes

hey mate, i am not an iphone genius. but from the comments above
i am going to say the only reason that is so is because of the optical illusion created by the angle that it is sitting and also that on one side of the speaker there is nothing while the other side there is something (making it look like less room)

    and again

the iphone box is 8cm tall. so the iphone is 8cm further away from the box and thus will look smaller, so again i would not be calling fake based on anything talked about above.

But in mirrors first post he mentions that it has 1 circle and 1 line thing next to the speaker, the 3g does have 3 circles. These circles (i think) are sensors to detect the level of light and to detect when you are holding the phone up to your ear. I am assuming it is not only restricted to 3g iphones so maybe it is just because of a different apple manufacturer or it could have been manufactured in a different country (are their differences between US/UK/Asian iphones?)

just clearing stuff up, not giving you my opinion because its up to you, but remember if its on ebay and you pay on paypal you haVE protection (if the site clearly states that it is a iphone 3g and real)

    good luck
