I bought my buddies iphone from him and it isnt activated anymore. Can you still unlock it. It does have a sim card and it is running 2.2. what is the safest way to to this because I dont want to brick it.

Use Ultrasn0w, made by the dev-team. Link to their site here - http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

You jailbreak, then install Ultrasn0w from Cydia.

You don't need ultrasn0w for the iPhone 2G. Just upgrade to 3.0, then run Redsn0w. It will Jailbreak & unlock it.

But, If it doesn't unlock with his method, just download Ultrasn0w from Cydia.

To the computer. Leave the AT&T Sim in until AFTER the Jailbreak.

Yes, use redsnow. I have a 2G iPhone and used redsnow without any problems.

    waiting for reboot problems

ok i downloaded redsn0w 8.0 and i run through it just fine untill it gets to the point where it says waiting for reboot then it just locks up and i have to restore my iphone evertime. Iphone is a 2g running 3.0 redsn0w is vers 8 and i am using windows vista. Another guy told me to use 7.2 and load the bootloaders i havent tryied this but i figured i would rather have the new version but now im just lost.

ok so I couldnt get redsnow 0.8 to run but i downloaded 0.72 and also had to download the bootloaders to get it to work. Cydia also updates itself so after you jail break it let cydia do all necessary updates and it will then be unlocked after reboot. everything works amazin except of course the net through tmobile. so if you have tmobile cancel your unlimited data and save some cash
