So....my iPod was working. I hooked it up to the computer to see if there were any updates. There was so I clicked update. Well I leave it alone to do it's thing and when I come back iTunes has an error message saying there was something missing and it couldn't update. (or smnlikdat) I turn my iPod on and it has the usb cable and an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo. I unhooked it from the usb and rehooked....nothing happens. I do it again and turn it on. Still the usb and itunes logo. Then I notice a message saying a new hardware was found.

So I go through the motions and it says the hardware is not working properly. What the heck?

So now I have no clue what to do. It doesn't show I have connected my iPod (it's the first gen touch) and I can't get it to turn on. Any help would be appreciated!

    Your doing something wrong...

Turn of your iPod by holding both the button, thats if your iPod is on.

Now Open iTunes, and make sure you iPod cable is connected correctly.

On the iPod (While its off) hold the home button, and then connect the iPod cable while holding the home button.

    Keep holding the home button.

iPod should go into recovery, and then iTunes should ask you to restore your iPod.

if that doesnt work, reply... i have another way if that doesnt work.

I can't remember what the message said. I didn't know anyone would ask. I do know it was "Unknown error 13".
