not from images found on the web, but with gimp and cinema 4D using nothing but colorization, built in filters, and gradients. cinema 4D i used only hair renders and the magnet tool. no textures or anything made by anything else. im so proud of myself

That's pretty cool, I wish I had the talent. I'm currently working on something in Photoshop that I'm creating from scratch, it's difficult but maybe I'll get it. Do you have any other work?

its a good grass effect but I wouldn't use it alone as the main component of an image. it would be good as a background terrain for a scene or in a film. try adding a tree, or a sun, or other stuff to make it more "complete." but as grass it looks pretty good. I like the clouds too.

also, I think youre missing the ground under the grass. you can see in between the fibers to...well either a blue ground or lack of ground.

thanks for the suggestions. well once i had the grass/background image, it took me about an hour and a half to put it all together. the background took me about half an hour, and the grass texture only took me 10 minutes because i figured it was so small i didn't need to add a whole lot of detail.

It's not bad as a first attempt.

That reminds me of something I did of a lake in Paint.NET, but it stinked, because I don't know how to make grass, and I just used random fuzz colored green.
