Update it to Gingerbread ( there's an OTA available, I think ) and root with Gingerbreak. It's a one click process. I don't know about rooting it while on FroYo though. You could try Superoneclick.
1. Don't listen to ElectroBeijing. He evidently doesn't know what he's talking about and what he's suggesting bears no relevance to the Triumph. Nothing personal, just saying. 2. I suggest installing Tickerguy's build of CyanogenMod 7. I'll post a link in a minute, I happen to be on my Triumph right now and I have to find the thread on Android Forums. It will include download links, install instructions, as well as troubleshooting for common problems. http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/406969-rom-beta-final-cm7-android-triumph-tickerguy-edition-kernel-mine-11-19-a.html Last, if you've got any more questions, feel free to shoot me a message or post back here
Then don't make suggestions for someone to do certain things, especially if they've got minimal experience. Especially with Android, it's way too easy to use the wrong software and brick your phone. Just for the record, there is no stock ROM available from VM/Motorización above 2.2.2. Also, it's factory rooted and has an unlocked bootloader.
Get the CM7-TG-Reloaded rom, its the most recent release. Also, get incredicontrol and no frills and tune those according to the guides on Android forums. You'll get better battery life and better performance. Win win.
But Virgin Mobile is strongly in support of the user being free to do as they choose with their device, yet openly denounce rooting...They made a statement where they explained why they refuse to put bloatware (MotoBlur, HTC Sense, TouchWiz, etc) on their devices, which is why all VM Android Phones have a very clean build of Android right off the bat. But in the same statement they said that rooting/installing custom ROMs is against their TOS. Somewhat contradictory, but I can live with that for an open phone.
With that being said, Virgin should be the one to carry the Galaxy Nexus then, not Verizon. Haha. How strict is VM when it comes to tethering? Like through 3rd party apps or custom ROMs with the feature built in.
Yeah, like that's gonna happen They do have a clause in their TOS which strictly prohibits it, but it's not too hard to get around. I do it using my Triumph and the built in CM7 feature quite often actually. And I haven't gotten a phone call yet. But the advantage of being on a non-contract is that if they cut off my service because I tethered, I can just create a new account and I'm off and running.
