    What type of "free" apps?

    Cydia Apps?
    Cracked Apps? ILLEGAL

    Oh, sorry.

Try contacting an Apple Employee. I have never heard of this happening before.

Have you authorized your iPod with your iTunes account?

Very strange. Try restoring, but set it up as A New iPod. Don't select your back-up.

Try restoring, installing a free app, then jailbreaking, or maybe the other way round. Set up as a new iPod so it's more controlled
