    well if the title confused you...

    when i boot my computer, the list of OSs to choose from goes like this...

    OLDER VERSION OF WINDOWS
    WINDOWS 7
    WINDOWS 7
    WINODWS 7
    UBUNTU

    those other 2 WINDOWS 7 options are there cuz i messed up the installation once and the other is from build 7000.

    Similarly, if i choose OLDER VERSION OF WINDOWS this is what the menu looks like...

    WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION
    WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL
    WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL
    WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL

    because i messed something up on my 40 gig hard drive whenever i installed XP.

    How can i get rid of these extra unneeded options? also, can i edit how many seconds it is until it automatically chooses an option? and one more question...
    is there an alternative to this whole boot screen like a Linux boot screen? anything i can install that will change the way it looks/boots?

    uh. i had it working correctly once but i think i messed something up in the XP boot.ini. when i select windows XP to boot it just sits there with a blank screen. this is how the XP boot goes.

    ;
    ;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
    ;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
    ;
    [boot loader]
    timeout=0
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /FASTDETECT

    copied this out of notepad from the easyBCD program. is there anything messed up about that?

    well the Micro Soft looks kinda out of place.

    Go to EasyBCD and delete the XP entry, and create it again.

    Ok i was in the same boat.
    When you install it delete partition and then create one. And do a quick install. It should be gone.
