    Alright,
I've seriously tried EVERYTHING. I got a NEW ipod today because my other one was not working. I've tried the technique where you hold down the sleep/wake buttom and home button untill the screen goes black then keep holding the home but release the sleep/wake. Well the ipod never shows back up on itunes. No clue what to do now. That seems to be the only correct way to do it without the ipod getting into the incorrect DFU mode. Someonee.. Please.. I really need suggestions. My other thread no one answered after i tried it and asked for a new way. Sorry bout reposting but I really want to jailbreak this ipod. I've been trying to jailbreak it ALL day.

    heres what i did:
got it into restore mode (w/ picture of usb connecting to itunes)
opened itunes and made sure it detected my ipod
held both buttons until the screen turned off
kept holding both buttons for 10 seconds after screen went off
let go of lock button but kept holding home button
let go when windows made a sound that it detected the device (screen stayed black)
    custom restored & it worked

    try this,

    1. start with your iPod turned off
    2. hold the power and home buttons down for 2 seconds
    3. after 2 seconds, release the power button but keep holding the home button down
    4. after a couple more seconds, iTunes will detect your iPod and see it as a DFU’ed iPod and should ask you to automatically restore its firmware and you can release the home button.

this method works for me, the other method does not. im not sure why

make sure u have itunes 7.5 installed instead of 7.7

the same thing happened to me thhat i think happened to u, i tried to pwn my iPod with Winpwn 2.0 for 1.1.4 firmware, and once it said it was restarting iPod it turned off but never came back on even when i held both the home and sleep button for a long time but anywayz heres how i got it back working

    1. i held down the home and sleep button but 10 seconds
    2. i let go of the sleep button but i kept holding the home button
3.then after my computer finally recognized my iPod in DFU mode and itunes asked me to restore
4.so next i held shift and clicked Restore and chose the 1.1.4 firmware to restore too
6.it restored and i was good to go

*note on itunes 7.5 u can only restore to firmwares 1.X
