    easy,, kindof... goto

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts if your on windows or

    /etc/hosts for mac

and open your hosts file in notepad or textedit...

    add this

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

to the bottom of the file and save... then when you restore itunes talks to cydia and not apple, allowing you to downgrade to whichever firmware with your shsh blobs

    no problem

Please Register or Log in to view images

remember if you want to upgrade to newer firmware, i would suggest removing the line added to the hosts file...

You can also use tinyumbrella. I personally have had issues with saurik's server. Also, if you get error 3014 make sure nothing is running on port 80. I had that issue. It wasn't even a web server, I think it was logmein, mucking things up.

When I use tinyumbrella my phone starts to restore, to the point where there is a progress bar on the phone iteself, but it only makes it 2/3 complete then just sits there. I heard it might be a problem with Windows 7 but I am not sure.

I decided to try and use a Vista, my moms piece of crap (she loves to load all those useless applications and toolbars), machine to edit the "hosts" file and redirect the server. And it worked perfectly, with the exception that I needed to use tinyumbrella to "kick out of recovery" after getting an 1004 error.

DO NOT use windows 7 as it appears to not want to play nicely. Hopefully this can help some of you.
