So, I went out today and drove the hour and a half to the nearest Apple store. five minutes later, I walked out with the 16GB iPhone. I drove an hour and a half home, connected to iTunes, and got this message:

"iPhone activations are unavailable at this time."

That's my luck. I make it home and I have to wait another hour for AT&T to finish their "scheduled maintenance." Oh well.

Anyway, I have an iPhone now.

EDITED: to add: how come the iPhones come with a Dock AND a Wall Power Adapter, and the iPod didn't come with either of those? I'm a little disappointed,

because like all phones you need a charger, plus you cant be expected to have a computer everywhere when you need to charge it. the dock isnt as good as the 50 dollar one i believe, this only has line out and you still have to use the apple cables with it,and if you got a case you really cant use the dock it wont fit . i jailbroke mine its not as simple as it was with ipod touch but its worth it

According to iTunes, I still have to wait another 20minutes for AT&T to finish their scheduled maintenance. Then I can activate.

One more note. I think the iPhone was designed for lefties. I find the button locations perfect on the iPhone, as opposed to the iPod, where I had to gnarl my hand around to press the sleep button.

On the iPhone, it's a slight movement of the index finger to hit the sleep button. The volume and ringer buttons are also in the perfect spot for my thumb.

    Yes, I'm left handed.

Awesome! Enjoy it. I am guessing your touch is going to become your 'testing device'. What kind of phone did you have before?

I don't know. I will be keeping it around until there is a working jailbreak for 16GB devices (with two SSD's) and then sell off the iPod. I don't know yet.

Who knows, with the 16GB iPhones and 32 GB iPods coming out at the same time, I might just have one SSD instead of two, but I don't really want to risk it right now.
