bricked gets used WAY too much. you didnt brick it

    put it in to dfu

plug it in your computer hold down the home a power button for 7 seconds exactly
then let go of the power button and itunes will recognize it and you'll be able to restore.
if it doesn't recognize it then try different times thean 7 like maybe 8 but this will work

The term brick DOES apply in this situation, as a brick means no longer working or can't do anything. Does not matter if you can fix it or not, but still it's a brick. I also see where you are coming from so please don't take offense to this post.

To the OP, try holding the home button, as you plug it in and wait for iTunes to recognize it. Also, could you tell me the last thing you did before it bricked?

I'm not really sure what to say if iTunes wont recognize it. I'd recommend uninstalling iTunes, then reinstalling. Or you can try to plug the iPod to an external charger, if you have one, then after awhile plug it back to the computer DFU style.

External chargers are simply chargers while an iPod USB charger is a USB connector between iTunes and the iPod and there might be some friction between the two devices (your computer and the iPod) where either 1, the iPod isn't charged and isn't going to charge by PC, or 2, the iPod can't connect correctly without be charged elsewhere. Kind of like when you take too much of the same emedicine to the point where you are immune until you change with a different one.

Then I have NO idea how to help you, go to the Apple store and tell them. They'll try to fix it themselves, and if they can't, they'll give you a new one.
